South Simcoe Minor Hockey Association Honors Remembrance Day with Touching Ceremonies
In a poignant tribute to Remembrance Day, the
South Simcoe Minor Hockey Association held three solemn ceremonies on Saturday,
paying homage to the brave men and women who served our country. The u16AA
team, showcased on BLC Blue, and the u15AA team, featured on BLC Green, and the U10BB participated in heartfelt events that brought together the hockey community in
a moment of reflection.
The
u16AA ceremony, captured beautifully in accompanying photos, saw notable
attendees such as Jody Mott, leader of the Bradford Poppy Project, and a
representative from the Royal Canadian Legion. Among the South Simcoe u16AA
players were Cameron Mansell, Shea O'Neill, Dylan Osmond, and the team's
captain, Lucas Bell. The ceremony also included a moving speech segment where
families shared their connections to military service and war veterans.
Rob
Matthews, a key organizer of the event, expressed gratitude for the families
who contributed to the ceremony. He highlighted touching stories, including
those behind the jerseys of players like Cole Skidmore, Tyler MacIsaac, Quinton
Curry, and Riley Matthews. Each jersey revealed a profound family history,
connecting the young athletes to relatives who served in various wars, spanning
from WWI to the Korean War.
The
ceremony not only paid tribute to the sacrifices of these veterans but also
emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring their legacy. As the
South Simcoe Minor Hockey Association, we take pride in fostering a sense of
community that extends beyond the rink, acknowledging the deep-rooted
connections our players have to the history of our nation.
In
the absence of photos from the u15AA ceremony on BLC Green, we encourage
families to share their memories and experiences, ensuring that every tribute
is acknowledged and celebrated.
These
Remembrance Day ceremonies stand as a testament to the South Simcoe Minor
Hockey Association's commitment to instilling values of respect, gratitude, and
remembrance in our young athletes, both on and off the ice.
